Jerrod Denmark, LCSW
Hello, fellow Human. If you’re seeking a therapist, you’re taking a courageous step for yourself and all the people in your life. Let’s see if I’m the right person to join you at this stage of your journey.
My practice is divided into two areas:
About my practice. In-person or virtual.
Clients have my respect and admiration right from the start. It takes enormous courage to ask for help. The struggle is real. I can see folks in-person in Santa Fe arts district (Central Denver), or via telehealth anywhere in CO.
I work with all kinds of people— especially those who may feel outside the mainstream, a little different, or even a little ‘odd.’ I have experience working with the historically marginalized (like women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and people with disabilities), as well as autistic people (or folks on the spectrum). I practice a stance of cultural humility and curiosity.
Exploration
Are you an explorer? Seeking a deeper understanding of yourself or your relationships? Maybe you know that you are a creative person, but you find yourself stuck and not creating. Perhaps you feel disconnected or lost with no compass to guide you. With a depth-oriented, dynamic approach we can take those deep dives together, map the territory, and rediscover your original self. Self-discovery is an honorable endeavor. Socrates told us, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” Psychodynamic, attachment-oriented therapy is a powerful, challenging process for any person seeking more from their life experience.
Solution Focused
People often come to therapy seeking relief from anxiety, OCD, PTSD or other trauma-related issues. Sometimes relationship patterns, anger-issues, or chronic self-doubt have them tied in knots. I have training in evidence-based therapies for each of these areas, as well as a background in the arts, which allows me to use out-of-the-box approaches alongside the latest science and research. I collaborate with you to find the approach that moves you forward in life and gets you where you want to be.
Background and education
Raised in an Air Force family, I grew up in central Texas and North-West Florida. As an adult I lived in New York City for 15 years, and that’s where I discovered my passion for eating pizza and helping people through therapy and social work. I now live in Denver, where my wife and I are raising our 6-year old tornado.
My background in the arts, making theatre and writing, gives me a creative sense of collaboration. I’ve used expressive arts techniques to help people struggling with persistent and serious mental illness as well as those who are getting along fine but feel that “something is missing from life.” I especially enjoy facilitating groups.
I hold a Master of Social Work from Silberman School of Social work at Hunter College in New York City, where I also received a year of specialized training in the National Child Trauma Workforce Institute. Before social work I taught life and vocational skills to adults with developmental disabilities I’m fully licensed to practice psychotherapy in the state of Colorado.
